The "Pickering" family name originated in Yorkshire, England and traces their ancestral roots back to Anglo Saxon origin. According to the Harleian Manuscripts housed in the British Museum in London, England, "Pickerings" were found in Bedfordshire, Cumberland, Devonshire, Huntingdonshire, Lancashire, London and later moving onto Staffordshire, Northampton, Sussex, Westmorland and Yorkshire. Our Pickering family originated from the county of Shropshire, England; namely Wrockwardine. In addition to residing in Wrockwardine, our "Pickering Family" travelled around to Wombridge, Priors Lee, Donnington Woods, Pains Lane, and Wellington, all in the county of Shropshire. In about 1865 our direct line of "Pickerings" moved to the Cannock area of Staffordshire. In the late 1800's the Pickerings set out for a new country when they immigrated to Pennsylvania, United States. Homesickness caused them to return to Staffordshire, England. A few years later, in 1909, they decided to make another trip across the Atlantic, but this time to Canada where they settled in Taber, Alberta. Several moves were made around the province of Alberta, including; Lethbridge, Beynon, Drumheller, and Red Deer. In the 1970's many of the Pickering family moved to the province of British Columbia. |
