Winnipeg’s TRIP dance company announced today that they have wound up operations.
Choreographer/artistic director Karen
Kuzak and her partner, dancer/general manager Randy Joynt, founded TRIP
in 1997. In twelve seasons, nineteen new works were produced on the
TRIP stage and the company became an integral part of Canada’s
dance landscape. The company’s work was marked by Kuzak’s
unwavering pursuit of her artistic vision, its remarkable
collaborators, powerful performers and contribution to the community.
Of the decision to wind up the
organization Artistic Director Kuzak says, “Evolution and renewal
have always been a part of the TRIP dance company journey and we made
this decision in order to pursue the next phase of our lives outside of
an organizational structure. I will continue to create dances and Randy
will continue to support the arts and cultural community as a teacher
and administrator. Though there were many struggles along the way, the
founding and growing of a dance company has been filled with joy and
allowed us to realize a dream. We are thankful we were allowed this
opportunity.”
The company’s materials have been donated to Canada’s national dance archives, Dance Collection Danse.
