Process

Let's

Individually:
  • Check out several art movements.

  • Each member will chose one movement to bring to the group's attention.

As A Group:

  • Choose an Art Movement.

  • Become familiar with the ideas and work.

  • Each group member will take on an artist's personality.

  • Choose another artist who lived at the same time. One member will take on this artist's personality.

  • Each member will analyze an art work by their artist. Use the language of art e.g. elements of art and principles of design.

  • Compare the work and philosophy of the potential artist to the group to find out if they would be like-minded or not.

Overview of Movement:

  • What did they believe about their art?

  • Were they reacting against a former style?

  • Were they reacting to any social or political conditions?

  • What is the subject matter?

  • How are the elements of art and principles of design used?

  • How did they approach light and shade?

  • Is there a certain approach to colour?

  • Is there a mood common to all of the work?

  • What form is is their art e.g. painting, drawing printmaking, sculpture, monumental, found objects?

  • Is the art realistic, abstract or non-objective?
