Article Analysis Assignment

Students in my class are expected to complete one Article Analysis per month.

The value of each Article Analysis is 10 marks.

· Each Article Analysis is worth 10 marks and is due on the last teaching day of each month.   A copy of the article must be included with their response.

· Each student is to locate an article on anything related to science or technology.

Good sources are    Subscribe to New Scientist MagazineScienceDaily -- Your link to the latest research news but magazines and newspapers are also good sources.  There are other good internet sites located on my Science Links PageStudents must print or cut out the article and include it with their response.

· Part I: Students read the article thoroughly and, using their own words, summarize it in one or two paragraphs. The name of the article, author, and source must accompany the summary.

· Part II: Students must then analyze the article in one or two paragraphs. The analysis is their personal opinion of the article and how they feel about what the author said.

A good analysis should explain:
How the article is scientific and how we could use this science in everyday life;
Who would be affected and how they would be affected?
Is the article believable or science fiction?
Students may list some questions they have from reading the article, draw a diagram or a web to help explain their thinking.

Basically, you need to answer the questions: who, what, where, when, why and so what?

Students are encouraged to complete this assignment at home, but some computer time may be given if students need extra time. Late assignments will be docked 2.5 points per day late.  All marks gained from the Article Analysis will go towards term marks.
