What is Poetry to YOU?

At the beginning of the unit we were asked to write, "What poetry means to me..." These are our ideas before and after the poetry unit.

Tyler B.	I think it is words that rhyme. I think of roses that are red and violets that are blue.	I THINK OF POETRY AS WORDS THAT MAY NOT HAVE TO RHYME, BUT SOME POEMS DO. I THINK OF FUNNY POEMS AND,,,,,,, EVEN FUNNIER POEMS.
Rebecca	What poetry means to me is, people's feelings that all come together to make their poem. It's what's going on in their lives, and maybe it's some of their problems, and something that relates to what's happened in their life.
Brett	It's something relaxing to me.
Blake	Poetry can tell a story. Poetry can sing a song. Poetry can also be rhymes.
Mike	It's a way people express themselves. It rhymes.	I think that it's hard and confusing. Some poems are boring and some are funny.
Dustin D.	Poetry is rhyme's, songs, stories and some tell the future. That's what poetry means to me.	Now that I have learned more about poetry I know that it can be pretty much anything. It can be silly, and it can be sad or glad. Poetry is very fun!
Christine	POETRY TO ME MEANS THAT SOMETHING WAS WRITTEN BY SOMEONE WHO IS TELLING OTHER PEOPLE ABOUT HOW SOMETHING SOUNDS, FEELS OR SMELLS.
Dustin H.	What poetry means to me is it makes rhymes and it tells about people's lives and sometimes it can be love poetry.	What poetry means to me now is that it helps people to be a good poem writer and it makes me think poetry is fun to do.
Jenna	Poetry means to me something that that doesn't have to rhyme and it doesn't have to make a lot of sense. But it usually means something special to someone or is a life long story about someone that meant a lot to them.	Now after all this poetry stuff I have learned that poetry can have different backgrounds such as Chinese or French. Now I see that poetry is known all over the world. Well, I kind of knew that before this, but now I understand it better. In plain and simple words....Poetry means LIFE to me now!!!
Corey	Poetry is a poem. Sometimes it rhymes, but other times it does not. Poetry has a lot of different types of poems like acrostic. Poetry sounds good sometimes and funny others. It can be about anything.
Renitta	Poetry to me are words put together in different forms, meaning different things. This is what poetry means to me.	Poetry to me means words put together by authors or poets or even yourself. They can express the way you feel. They can be humorous or they can also be sad and outrageous.
Holly	What poetry means to me: Not much. It means some stuff to me, like some of the poems that talk about people who are great. Mother goose ones because my mom used to read them to me.	What Poetry Means to me Now: It means the same as it did before. But there is one author who's my most favorite one of all. Shel Silverstein!!!!!!!!!! He is the best!!
Jacqueline	It means words & sounds, life & laughter, rhythm, true stories of life, love and humor, together all in one. Already I'm rhyming. What's in a poem makes sense, joyful and wondery!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dave	POETRY IS LIKE A SONG...POETRY EXPRESSES HOW PEOPLE FEEL. AND POETRY RHYMES.
Keegan	To me poetry is just a bunch of rhymes.
Melissa	Poetry means to me that it rhymes, makes sense to me and it can be about anything; nature, the sea or people!!
Amanda	Poetry is relaxing. Poetry rhymes. Poetry is somewhat amusing. Poetry can be about anything.	Poetry is fun. Poetry is cool and all the things I said before.
Tori	Poetry is something you do if you have nothing to do. You can write it when you're sad or happy.	Poetry pretty much means the same now as it did back then but it's a lot harder than I thought. I mean I thought you would have to write stuff like what you're feeling.
Christopher	I LIKE POETRY BECAUSE IT IS FUN.	Poetry is happy and nice, funny and cheerful. I like poetry!
Graham	Poetry means friends, animals, cool things and things that I like. I can not read poetry but I can kind of write it.
Kellen	To me poetry doesn't always have to make sense and some times it rhymes. I really like that. Poetry is another way to express your feelings.
Louis	Poetry means to me thoughts that come from the heart.
Andrew F.C.	Poetry is a way of expressing yourself and how you feel, even though I only do it because I have to. I'm not an expressive person.	Poetry means a little more to me now.
Tyler	Poetry is Gibberish to me.
Alexandra	What exactly is poetry? It can be anything you want it to be. It can come in any form you wish to put it in whether it is written or sung. To me poetry is feelings and something that comes from the heart. It also states important matters, and what others feel. I don't really care for poetry. But sometimes it can be okay.	Poetry now means the same to me as when I started. It can be what ever you want it to be. Songs, words. It could be written, sung, stated or anything you can think of.
Katie	Poetry really doesn't have much meaning to me, but it is only something that you can't say or explain so you write it.
Dynelle	Poetry means to me an event or a holiday. People write poetry about dreams, people, things, places, holidays, and past experiences.	I think poetry is something that describes an event, season, or something that has happened in your lifetime, a person, a place or anything else. That's what I think poetry is.
Melissa	Poetry is people expressing their feelings; it may describe something. I will only write poetry when I have nothing else to do. Other than that I will not write any type of poetry at all. To me poetry is not fun unless I'm bored.	Poetry still means the same to me but I think I like poetry now, well at least a little bit more than before. I liked doing the website with my poems.
Matthew H.	Poetry means to me nothing. I do not like poetry. I think it is lame. That is what I think about poetry.
Julie	I think poetry is something that describes someone or something in descriptive words. People write poetry about dreams they have or had, about people or holidays. I can write poetry I just can't read it very well.	Now I think poetry is really fun. It can be used in so many ways to express feelings and thoughts in verbal poems.
Laurena	To me poetry means describing an event or feeling. Senses are a big part of poetry. Most poets use poetry to express their feelings. I think poetry is an okay way of writing.
Brendon	Poetry is for the mind and the soul. Poetry feeds your mind. It helps you to be a better person, learning to express your feelings. Poetry is words in unlimited ways. Poetry is Poetry.
Stephanie	Poetry makes me think about rhyming and is usually about how the writer describes their feelings at that time.
Carlee	Poetry Means happiness and love. It clears my mind. I can think about whatever I want to. That is what poetry means to me.	Poetry means love and happiness. It has a special meaning and I don't know what it is. It's like a rainbow that never ends.
Kyra	How I feel about poetry: I feel bored if I'm forced to do it... I like to do poetry on my own free will. Example, if somebody told me to do a poem about... fishes (I don't know), it would be very boring and I would be ticked off all day. Here's a haiku poem about fishes that Alex told me to do: slippery slimy I don't like fishes one bit because they are gross because they are disgusting because they smell real funny If I'd done it on my own without being told, it would have been something like this: fishes glistening shiny in the water clear fishes sparkling water tickles their gold fins fishes have fun in the sea See? Ok, so don't make me do poetry or else you'll get something really dumb.
Ryan	To me, poetry is a way to tell a short story. Poetry is a fun way to tell a story because it rhymes.
Lydia	Poetry doesn't really mean anything to me. All that I think poetry is is things that are said from the heart.
Carly	What poetry means to me is well... I usually think of poetry as rhyming words. These rhyming words would tell you something (like a message). Poetry would also express feelings to some people.	Poetry is like a message to me. It also expresses feelings to people. To me it's rhyming words that tell you something.
Vanessa	Poetry means nothing to me!
Devan	I think poetry represents the future and how people feel. I think that poetry is fun and it can be hard. I also think that any person in the world can write poetry if they have an imagination.	I think poetry is fun and easy if you have an imagination. I still think poetry represents people's feelings, the future, the past and present. so that's what I think of poetry now.
Jessica	Poetry means to me feelings and happiness. I also think it means love for people. I think it means kindness and sharing. Poetry is where you can relax and just write about how you feel or whatever you want to write about. Poetry is where you can and get out of your bad days. This is what I think is poetry.
Eric	POETRY IS WHEN IT DESCRIBES SOMEONE OR SOMETHING AND I DO NOT READ OR WRITE POETRY. POETRY MEANS NOTHING TO ME BECAUSE IT'S REALLY BORING.
