Dear Mr. or Mrs. Sorensen...
Okay before anyone gets the wrong idea, I want to set something straight. I'm not posting this to show off or anything like that. I'm posting this for 3 reasons. 1 - to keep everybody that cares informed on where Rivers is coming from by opening up to the fans and listening to our opinions; 2 - by contributing to the validity of asschun's correspondence with Rivers; and 3 - to encourage other fans to write him with your comments and (constructive) criticisms. I wrote a letter to Rivers (through Karl) after I read that Rivers was interested in what the fans had to say about his recent vocal performances:

-------------------
Rivers -

To me you seem to be singing closer to the way you used to on newer songs like 'The Dawn' and 'We Go Together' because you really belt the lyrics out like you did on Blue, Pinkerton and the Summer Songs 2k. I like Green alot, but you rarely seem to really belt them out, except on Hash Pipe and maybe the end of 'Simple Pages', which to me sounds like older stuff. However, most of the Green songs probably wouldn't call for that either, so....? Anyway, thanks for listening to all our input, It's pretty cool of you.

- Ridd Sorensen

And this is the reply I got tonight (forwarded from Karl):

On 12/1/01 6:23 PM, "karl@weezer" <karl@weezer.net> wrote:

So, a pretty simple letter, and a pretty simple reply. But it proves he's listening, and it looks like he's really interested in what we have to say. How cool is that?
Again - not showing off. I just thought it was fucking cool and needed to be shared. Call me a liar, whatever. Getting a reply from Rivers is good enough for me, and I won't go out of my way to prove it's legit.

The end of Simple Pages is undoubtedly the best moment of Green. Undoubtedly.

karl must hate me or something,

i ask him legitimate and important questions... nothing.

and asschun (asschun of all people!) gets like 5 messages from rivers discussing stupid shit.

ridd, maybe you can relay some messages for the rest of us, since karl OPENS you emails.

hah, asschun shoots the breeze with rivers.

Yeah, ridd...since Karl seems to read all your mails, can we make an input thread that you could maybe send our opinions in to Karl? (by "our" i mean issues that the board shares a conscensus on) I ask this because karl seemingly never opens my mail, and i try to ask legitimate question with atleast an attempt at articulating my thoughts.

maybe we can get an open line of communication from us to karl/rivers. how cool would that be? asschun cant have all the glory, heh.

Re: Dear Mr. or Mrs. Sorensen...
actually, karl doesn't reply to every email I send. He's a hella busy guy. I can tell you though that Rivers is looking for input on all this, and if you put some thought into telling him why you think his vocals might not be 'up to par' (whatever that means), you may get a reply. I only started conversing semi-regularly with karl pretty recently, but there are a couple people on this board that I think do it quite often, they just don't feel compelled to post it for everyone, nor should they. I only posted this particular message because of all the stuff that's been happening lately, and I really want people to send Rivers some intelligent, well thought out and constructive email.

He replies to all of mine. But no one notices that.

If you had something valid to say, Karl would respond.

Yes i agree with Ridd. We should all attempt to voice our true opinions on weezer's new flow of music. That way our assumptions will be confirmed and Rivers can benefit from it at the same time.

Someone in this thread mentioned earlier to discuss first
what we think about the songs here and
have Ridd send an email for us summing up
the whole green discussion.
I think that is kinda a good idea.
Instead of all of us emailing them and
waiting for a response from Rivers individually.

Agree?

That way we are bound to get a good response
because input is made by many weezer fan's (who all have serious worthy opinions on the music) at the same time.

Re: Dear Mr. or Mrs. Sorensen...
karl is pretty busy i think, he does a lot of stuff it seems that he doesnt get cred for - he's not just a webgeek, in fact, he doesnt even handle the backend of weezer.com (the hard stuff) Dan and Anuj do all the dirty work. Karl is like their biographer sorta, but it'd be interesting to know, along with all the questions to rivers, what a typical day for Karl while on tour is like, what his responsibilities are, etc... cuz it's pretty vague!

Oh and one thing about rivers, I think Karl DOES reply to your emails, he at least reads them, but he doesnt reply to any that are useless or fluff. I havent recently, but a couple months ago I had ongoing discussions with him about little stuff that really wasnt THAT important (it was like clearing up stuff and facts for a FAQ) - basically he'll reply to you if your email is

1.) clear
2.) concise
3.) not something 10,000 other fans have emailed him like 'i like rivers' glasses'.

I'm pretty sure Karl does more than sit on his ass and take in all the =w= goodness and shit and project it to us the way he wants, then read and reply to emails.

He's gotta be doing something you know? He's probably doing things backstage at shows or something, I mean, it was a while ago, but I remember long ago when he was going all over the place making during the Outloud Tour. Like I said though, things may be different now.
