Re: 4 New live Green stuff & more on .com
... more evidence of the chronological numbering theory. IITS is way before everything else on green. Big surprise.
Kick ass, more live stuff. I'm telling you, bootleging is like obsolite now. It's still nice to have the whole shows, but I've got plenty of good whole bootlegs. All I want now is to see how the new songs are evolving.
Is this the new DLG in a different key? Should I bother with it? I have a 28.8.

He's trying..
The new DLG is a hell of a lot different than the version on Green.. Rivers has added some guitar parts. It sounded like it may have been in a different key; I'm too lazy to check. These songs are so much improved after he spends time on them. Still not up to par with older stuff, but better nonetheless.
By the way, this is my first post back in a LONG time.. I am NOT from the .com board, and I've been monitoring posts here for a while.. I used to post on the really old-school message boards (a year ago.. ancient..) Hope you guys don't hate me.

Thanks dude. We're making a dent here. This changing of these songs is progress. Maybe some of them should just die, but progress is progress. I'll check them out later.

The "gayness"
Rivers still halfway sounds like he's going through the motions when he's singing, but there are improvements. It still lacks that *energy,* but it's certainly getting better. Definitely. He's even changing a couple of rhythms here and there in the vocal melodies..

Re: The "gayness"
These versions are fucking awesome. Listen to Crab, man! That intro is 100x's better. The solos are kickass, and Don't Let Go really works alot better in E. His vocals are much much more energetic than on the album, and he's finally belting them out like I suggested (not that he's doing it because of me - obviously) + an added verse and chorus on Fall Together. He's listening to us, people!
Man this Rivers-fan correspondence is fucking groundbreaking. Sorry for all the language, but.... fuck!

This is awesome. Don't Let Go actually sounds good! I like the stretched out harmonization of the song's title. The subdued drummings are also a Good Thing; they were too distractingly powerful in the original version.

I think....
I think there is more than just 4 new songs cause it says that The Dawn and Fall Together are also from the Madison show....I've noticed that if a song is in the top ten list and a new version comes out, the new one replaces the old one. Can anyone confirm this?

The chorus to 'The Dawn' is old school Rivers vocal stylings.

Yeah, as far as I can tell they replace a version of the song with a newer one when they think the newer one is better. I've still got all the old ones, and when you listen to the newer ones you can usually see the improvements.

I can't believe how much better "Don't Let Go" sounds. The new guitar sound adds so much to it and takes away alot of the pussy vibe the song once had...and now some one is saying added verse to "fall together"? Crazy. Damn 56k.

Some difference shows on the green stuff. He's squeaking again..and using his mouth to make the sounds more like he used to.
He's also using on the green songs that draw-out-a-word-here-and-there style that I really noticed he starting using with Faith in the Light.
"why does the event staff wear rubber gloves... what are they gonna do to you?" heheh

Holy shit dude.
I think I contributed to what Rivers did without even contacting him. I was saying something yesterday about bringing back the old second verse as a third, but I'll take a repeat. I'm in no way trying to take total credit I just got a really wierd headrush when I listened to it. Totally new voice I don't think has much to do with me at all. That's pretty much asschun. But god damn! Talk about fast action. Also gotta credit Ultimate Funkmaster for getting on the whole adding verses subject. Did someone write a letter about adding verses? Way to go. Sorry if I missed. (edit - sorry if I missed the letter I mean).

Hey, I'm not expert on music ownership laws and whatnot, but what do you think the record label's opinion would be on Weezer releasing better versions of 40% of their platinum selling album online for free?
I mean, not that it really matters, we all know what a great relationship Weezer has with interscope right now, I'm just curious......

Yeah 420. I remember you saying that about FT - you never know. But yeah the adding verses thing has been mentioned a few times. I think Gogokain played a big part in that aspect. Man it's weird how he introduces Fall Together with the whole "..with an added verse and chorus" thing. Like dopenose said, it's like he's addressing all of us personally. This is just too cool.

Re: Man!
I just got through listening to the green songs and I have to agree with everyone that they are definitely an improvement. Well, maybe not IITS, but I liked that song a lot to begin with.
"This is so weird... They just turned the cool on like a light switch."
I was thinking the same thing they managed to take a group of songs I was fairly indifferent too and turned them into something much more interesting. I mean they were all pretty catchy to begin with, but now they've upped the rock quotient. My only real concern is does anyone think this could actually be a problem, in that it sort of validates Rivers whole theory as far as how to make a perfect pop song? In all his correspondences he talks about how he wants to repeat the verses and that even though he doesn't have the formula that's his overall goal. So when we all go praising these songs as being much better (they are) won't that just convince Rivers that he is on the track. Obviously its still the same vague and fairly meaningless lyrics, and that's what I consider the biggest problem on green anyway. Hopefully this has made some sense and I'm not trying to be negative here, its just something that went through my head. Another thing how does everyone feel about the use of echo/delay? I'm not sure it really improves anything, but it doesn't bother me too much either.

I'd have to offer disagreement.
I don't believe the new version of DLG is in the least bit "better" than the Green album version, if anything, I am of the mind that Rivers is having a little fun with you. Adding a couple chords, and changing the guitar solo do not constitute a massive and much needed change in the songs. I think you are all a little too eager.
p.s. It is doubtful that Rivers even had to try to change these songs up a bit, I think you aren't giving him enough credit for what he has managed to do.

Yeah well thats only an assumption buddyholiday.
Regarding the "Rivers having fun with us" comment.
The changes aren't drastic but good changes nonetheless.
It is showing more emotion which is terrific. Vocal, guitar solos and pat's drumming.

Sorry, your taste are obviously different than most of ours BuddyHolliday. You thought the Green Album was a genius piece of music. Most of us hated it, or at the least found it significantly inferior to previous efforts. So if you must be the contrarian again, it's nothing shocking.

They'll never let it go
I agree that I was only making an assumption, after all my words were "I am of the mind that Rivers is playing a little game with you." Dopenose, I realize that you hated the Green, but simply beecause you hate it, does not make it a terrible album.
I stand behind my opinion that Green is a work of genius, and not only because of my thoughts on what the lyrics may or not mean. Perhaps the lyrics don't mean a damn thing. It's still an album full of completely original, and perfect, melodies. I believe that each weezer album is genius, and they should not be compared to each other, if for no other reason than the fact that different motives are behind the creation of each.
Walter Garvey
p.s. I am only trying to provide some caution, it seems to me that there is just as much possibility that Rivers is only "responding" to you as a private joke.

I actually have to totally agree with you on the above quote.
But aside from that, do you honestly think Rivers would devote so much time to sifting through a ton of emails and reply to them just to 'mess with us'? Seems kind of pointless, no?

Argh, well I just wrote a huge essay on why I don't think the green album is genius, but then I said fuck it and deleted it because honestly, the issue has been analyzed to death and I don't think anybody is interested in my views on the subject. I'm just glad the most is being made of these songs, as these improvements, which sound pretty significant to me, DO help quite a bit.

huzzah! i was at the madison, wi show, and i'm definitely glad that the band decided to release these songs. i can't say i agree with dragging out all the chorus lines for every green album song, though. it works in Don't Let Go, but just seems out of place to be shoved into each Green Album track.
and unfortunately, that chorus dragging actually made its way into a few Blue Album songs. was kinda annoying.

and unfortunately, that chorus dragging actually made its way into a few Blue Album songs. was kinda annoying. but yes, good improvements all around, in my opinion.

I have to agree these new versions are a step in the right direction.

Re: They'll never let it go
dammit! why couldn't they post the KC show! Anyway.. these songs do rock and green is hella better live, especially w/ the modified solos and don't let go sounding a lot harder (it actually instigated the most moshing during the KC show). And buddy holliday...if you want bland, formulaic songs go listen to your n'sync album or something. And just because rivers isn't playing to your tastes (teeny-bopper) but instead trying to please the real fans, doesn't mean that he's playing with us, that's like saying he was playing with us when they released pinkerton so he could later make a pop album for the masses. He actually listens to us and does adjust to us, he's really not cold enough to lead us on like that.

Re:
These songs are likeable now! Crab is tolerable live! There is one thing Im still unsure of, whether he is dragging the vocals out or singing with emotion? Either way green can be heard live now without vomiting!

Re: 4 New live Green songs & more on .com
none of the songs rocked, per se
but they were not as annoying as before

Dear DJ, Thanks for the help. I honestly prefer talking to people like yourself
rather than a producer, a manager, or a record executive. You make
suggestions motivated by artistic concerns, you posess greater knowledge of
weezer-music, and you notice the tiny details those other hired-hands miss.
I wish I could grasp the rock entirely on my own, but the truth is, I, and
most other musicians, need some sort of advising--whether it be from a
manager, a girlfriend, or, in my case, an ex-fan, so . . . as long as
you're willing to give the criticism, I'm willing to take it.-Rivers Cuomo

Re: 4 New live Green songs & more on .com
holy shit
those songs are unreal. the differences seem so subtle to me, but they fuckin rock, and help out songs like Crab 100%.. smile wasn't as amazing as I thought it would be with 'changes' but its ok still...
anyone know if the solos are quieter as a result of the recordings or if that is how they are being played? They sounded GOOD but not as loud or wailing as it wouldve been nice to see...
Just my 2 cents and questions...

Ick.
I got to this thread a tad late, but man the new versions of these songs. I have to say I like the attempt, but the execution is horrible. They are actually hard to listen to. Rivers missing chords and it sounds like they didn't practice before they did this.
I dig the new stuff a lot and it makes me wish I had a burner to make my own 4th =w= disc....but I'll wait until the Rivers produced studio disc comes out.

Re: Hey
the added changes are good..but i don't think rivers is going to like the differing critisicm among his "hardcore" fans. It seems that too much is expected from him...e.g. some people are saying these changes rock, others are saying it's worse...etc...he will soon stop listening...that's my opinion anyway.
