Rick is the author of four books, one fiction and three non-fiction, and has contributed to numerous other books as editor, chapter author or advisor.

Kayaking
Rick began paddling in the mid-70s, on rivers in Africa (whenever it rained). More recently, he has become a dedicated seakayaker, with the ocean on his doorstep and two kayaks under the boathouse. He has written a number of stories about paddling on BC's West Coast, and in the Baja.

Rocks & Minerals
Rick is the joint owner of a geological tourist attraction, and has spent many seasons rockhounding and prospecting around British Columbia. He has produced two fieldguides to areas in the province, as well as having written numerous articles on where/how to hunt for minerals, fossils & crystals.
He is the editor of the Western Canadian Gemstone Newsletter, and has an active interest in the quarterly provincial BC Rockhounder and the national Canadian Rockhound. He is the recipient of five Dowton Awards for excellence in geological writing. |

Humor
Entertaining and light hearted stories of his and other's adventures and mis-adventures form the backbone of numerous articles, plus his News from Tumble River, a collection of nine stories about life in a small BC town in the Interior has been reviewed favorably in the media. |

Climbing & Skiing
Rick has been on climbing expeditions to Patagonia (twice), Greenland (twice), the Pakistani, Indian and Nepalese Himalayas, the Tien Shan (Central Asia), Turkey, Bolivia, both South and East Africa, and the Canadian Arctic.
He has written numerous articles on mountain matters, and regards the BC Coast Mountains and the Canadian Rockies as his home territory, where he has done many trips (both summer and winter).

Travel
Of course, you can't visit remote places and savor different experiences, without travel. Travel is the road, not the destination. And some destinations aren't of themselves an adventure. In this section I include some more relaxed trips to places that might be better described as 'normal' vacations. Enjoy!
