"The
Legend of Siwash Rock"
Storyboard sketches and rendered frames from my animated short, "
The
Legend of Siwash Rock", based on the A.M. Stephen poem of the same
name and inspired by the paintings of Roy Henry Vickers. Most notably
his four part piece project titled, "Four Views of Vancouver".
Diversified Scientific Solutions used a portion of this animation in one of their documentary film on the ocean food chain for Ocean Sciences BC.
This
is a 12 verse poem...at this time I have completed approx. 5.5 verses.
I hope to one day upgrade the current 5.5 verses and complete all 12.
Enjoy and please let me know what you think.

The
Legend |
Open
with a close-up on Siwash Rock.
Camera pulls back, orbits the rock 180 degrees. |
This
is the legend of T'elsh,
Happy beyond desire, |
 |
 |
The
camera pauses behind the rock,
then continues to orbit the rock |
Calmly,
till time shall cease,
Facing the sunset's fire. |

VERSE TWO
The
camera orbits to the front of the rock
as particles, (salt, sand, etc.), float by.
The camera then slowly decends and shoots
upwards towards the rock. |
Lightly
the salt winds pass,
Touching his carven face.
Silent the Great Chief stands,
Lost to his ancient race |

VERSE THREE
Camera
fades in, showing shoreline.
Pans along shoreline, showling the
lodges and the sky chief. |
In
the days before the white man,
When the Saghalie Tyee
Smiled upon his Indian brothers
In their lodges by the sea, |
 |
 |
Camera
continues to pan along shoreline,
to Siwash Rock and out to sea,
there we see the Transformers great canoe,
enshrouded in mist, floating by. |
Roamed
the Two Transformers, searching
Through the paths of good and ill,
For the hidden thread of promise
That bound earth to His will. |

VERSE FIVE
Camera
pulls back and out of T'elsh's lodge.
Backwards along the shorline to the blanket/robe
made of cedar. Camera stops and pans out to sea.
Fade-out. |
Rich
was T'elsh, the Salish hunter,
And his two wives sang with pride
As they wove the fragrant cedar
Into robes beside the tide,
Echoing back their happy crooning,
In its voice of mystery
Mingling words of lowly love-songs
With the magic of the sea |

VERSE
SIX
Fade-in.
T'elsh's canoe floats in the bay as the camera
orbits around it, stopping with the village in the
background.
Fade to black. |
Floating
softly as a moonbeam
In his light canoe, our brave
Filled an hour with idle dreaming
As he watched the rippling wave
Blend with dusk along the shore-line. |
 |
 |
Screen
flashes, showing T'elsh's canoe in the bay!
Blackness...fade-in to closing,
"The Legend will continue...". |
'T'elsh!'
A great Voice fell
On the silence of the waters
Like the deep tones of a knell. |
| |
THE
LEGEND WILL CONTINUE... |
