Asyncritus
Asyncritus
Paul sends greetings to Asyncritus in Romans 16:14. The name "Asyncritus" is
very rare. In the 6 volumes of the "Lexicon of Greek Personal Names" published
so far (2008) there are just 15 cases of this name, including its variants. This
represents just 0.0064% of known persons. One of these 15 is a Jewess called
"Anna, also called Asyncrition", found in an inscription from 4th or 5th century
Thessalonica.(1)
Anna's bi-name, "Asyncrition" is interpreted as "the incomparable one". It is
therefore possible that the "Asyncritus" of Rom. 16:14 is also a bi-name.
