The Heads of Households and Strays have been indexed for the 1871 Census by the Ont. Genealogical Society and access to the database is available on-line through either the National Archives or through Jim McKane's web site at Queen's University, Kingston, Ont.
A searchable database of the 1881 Census was released in 2001 by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The 1881 Canadian Census Project is based at the University of Montreal (Département de Démography/CIED, Université de Montréal).
The 1901 Census of Canada is being transcribed by volunteers, see 1901 Census. There are some novel features in this searchable database where one can report yourself as a researcher on a particular person, and report errors in the transcriptions!
Abbreviations
Petawawa Township was part of the District of Nipissing for the 1871 Census. Renfrew County was divided into North and South divisions sometime prior to the 1891 Census. Sometime prior to the 1901 Census many of the townships were combined into groups of two or three. The village of Eganville is intersected by the Bonnechere River, and the north half of the town is in North Renfrew and the south half in South Renfrew. Again about 1998 the townships were regrouped and renamed (not shown below).

The Upper Ottawa Valley Genealogical Group is seeking volunteers to assist the Group in transcribing the Census records of Renfrew and Pontiac counties.
There are several tasks that can be done:
The first and third tasks do not require a computer, just access to a microfilm reader and the census records. Townships can also be split into divisions.
