Kinesiologist Greg Webb has provided a number of simple techniques people can use in order to tap into what their body wants to tell them.
The Yes/No Response - You can use this in different ways. One is to simply observe the difference in breathing between when you allow you body to show a "yes" response, and when you allow it a "no" response.
To do this, take a few moments to clear your mind. Then think of something that elicits a "yes" response in your mind. Pay close attention to what your breathing is like. Now take a few more moments, then think of something that elicits a "no" response in your mind. Again, as you think of it, pay close attention to your breathing.
You can perform a similar exercise with your eyes and the amount of brightness in a room. Elicit a "yes" response and observe how bright your immediate environment looks. The elicit a "no" response and observe any difference in the brightness you see around you.
In these two examples, you should find that your breathing is more relaxed, your surroundings are brighter when you elicit the "yes" response. When a "no" comes up, you will most likely find your breathing is shallower and quicker, your eyes closed a little more and your surroundings not quite as bright.
Body Swaying - Stand with your body relaxed, your eyes closed. Take a few moments to center yourself. Then think of something you love, something that makes you feel very happy. See how your body feels, what it does.
Now let that feeling go, and center yourself again. Think of something you hate, something that makes you very sad or angry or depressed. See what happens.
Many people find when they let go and think of something positive, their body sways gently. When a negative thought comes up, the body does not sway as much, as its muscles tighten involuntarily, causing it to become more rigid and less flexible.
Practical Applications - These techniques can be used when making difficult decisions. The "body-sway" technique can also be used when buying groceries and selecting vitamin supplements.
How and why does it work when selecting food or vitamins? Webb explains: "It is based on the fact that everything in the Universe has a positive and negative charge to it. Opposite charges attract each other, similar charges repel. So, if your body is lacking in a certain substance, if it truly needs a certain nutrient contained in a food or vitamin, you will be subtly drawn to it. If it does not, your body will be repelled by it, or at the very least, be neutral toward it. --JG
