I got teased all the way
from out East on the train. All the cowboys were looking at me like I was
some sort of schoolboy. One look in the mirror told me it was true. I needed
some real duds. That would have to wait.
I had heard alot about my
Uncle Nick's ranch out in the middle of
the Prairies. He finally
wrote and told me come out and I was looking forward to arriving and seeing
all 'the wildlife' for myself...
...deer...
...bear...
...cougar..
...and of course, wild mustangs
free for the taking. Round them
up and that is exactly what
my Uncle Nick had been doing the last
20 years. He's was getting
on in years and needed help, so my
mother decided it was time
for me be a man and head out West.
The Red Ranch sounded pretty
interesting from his letters...
...the ranch house sounded
comfortable...
...he just said you got to
watch out for the odd rattler!
This was no place for a green
horn like me. I was raised out here, but after being out East for so long
I wondered if I still had any cowboy left in me.
It took five miles of walking
in the hot sun from the train
waterstop to my Uncle Nick's
front door. I had now idea the
next few days were going
to
change my life forever.
