Anyone who has been a long time member of the Star Wars Miniatures Battles mailing list on Yahoo! groups is familiar with how “Grand Moff” Hawthorne raves about the Great Rail Wars miniatures game. In September of 2003, I was home with a cold and decided to spend some time on the net looking into this Great Rail Wars/Savage Worlds stuff. What I found was that Savage Worlds sounded like the ideal RPG system for someone like myself who loves running games, creating adventures, gadgets and characters, but doesn’t have the time anymore. I guess I never really did, but I certainly don’t have the time to devote to RPG’s like I did in my 20s.
So I picked up a copy, read through it and immediately purchased the Evernight adventure. I started running a game with my kids and they loved it. In 2004 I startup up a second game with older players who have some RPG experience. They all seem to like the game as well.
Once I had the rulebook in hand, I started thinking about the games that have settings I really like, but rules I don’t. Two RPG’s came to mind, Classic Traveller and Darwin’s World. Traveller is a longtime favorite of mine, but the archaic rule system leaves a lot to be desired. Darwin’s World is a great D20 game, but has been converted to D20 Modern for 2nd Edition. I was not about to buy into the Modern system when I already had 3rd Edition D&D and Star Wars D20.
So I built a conversion document for Classic Traveller. Click this link for Savage Traveller.
Now I have added my next conversion: Savage Star Wars. This conversion is primarily based on the d6 WEG RPG, but has my own ideas about how I want things to be. As such, the initial conversion has only Episode 4-6 stats. I will likely be adding more. Let me know what you think.
Here are some files to help caculate probibilities of die rolls. Savage Worlds Die Roll Stats is available in PDF or Excel format.
Be sure to check out Great White Games for more information about Savage Worlds and it’s free miniatures game rules, Savage Worlds Showdown.
I’ve put together a package of tools for ScreenMoney. This includes Savage Dice and Initiative scripts and more. Download it here:
