The following model uses the attributes of Distributed Learning to optimize the reading process:

Step 1) Map out the text book chapter or selection before the class. Have this diagram on the left side of the open notebook as shown.

Step 2) Leaving a wide margin, take notes on the right hand page and update the left hand page as follows:

Step 3) Within the next 3 to 5 days read over your notes and add questions or key words to the left margin as shown

Step 4) Within the next one or two weeks cover the right column of your notes and practice by trying to remember the detail on the left that matches your key words or questions.

Step 5) Check out the ratings of the concepts you miss, reviewing only the ones you miss that have a rating of more than 2 stars. Don't waste time reading over or practicing the unimportant or what you already know!

Step 6) Regenerate the important points in your diagram from memory. Try using Inspiration and color related concepts if you really want to get fancy!

The object is to study only what you need to learn, while distributing the practice for

maximum retention over time.

We remember things if we practice them over time - not because they are important!
