Second set of stop signs installed in the Village

Thankfully, after some of the town staff had the motion to install all-way stops at all intersections in the neighborhood recinded, and council passed a new motion to put all-way stops at Fourth and Beach,as well as Sixth and Primrose, the town was able to go ahead and take the next step in making the neighborhood safer.

CAUTION must still be exercised though, as the town engineer pointed out in his statement to the town council on March 8, 2010, stop signs can be dangerous in that they give people a false sense of safety when in fact drivers may not stop and thereby injure or kill pedestrians.

PAINTED lines and the word "stop" are usually included when a stop sign is installed; however, as you can see, this has not been done for the new installations on Beach and on Primrose which went in on March 26, 2010.

We have seen several vehicles drive thru both intersections at 4th and 5th without stopping.

The addition of the painted lines and the word "stop" will help drivers recognize the stop and reduce the chance of injury or death.

Also, we encourage people who are driving thru the neighborhood to get to destinations outside the neighborhood, to drive on the north south arterial streets of Jones or Memorial or Berwick. For example, when driving from the center of town to the round about at Memorial and Rupert, instead of taking Beach or Primrose to Garden, take Jones to Rupert then turn left. It's just as fast and safer.

Currently, even with two stop signs on each (Primrose and Beach between Fern and Garden) drivers still drive thru the residential neighborhood to get from town to the round about at Memorial and Rupert. Another set of stop signs would help ecourage thru drivers to use Jones to Rupert and Memorial. Step by little step.

The addition of two all-way stops on both Beach and Primrose has improved traffic safety in our neighborhood enormously. Thank you for all your support.
