December 30, 2003

Our only visitor this morning was our guest speaker, Sheerwood Moore on behalf of Citizens On Patrol Society (COPS). The usual list of those away, many of them slathering on sun block no doubt, includes Ian, Kim, Matt, Greer, Ed, Mushtaq, Jeff and George.

President Hilda announced that the Executive Meeting scheduled for tonight has been postponed to January 13 at Rotary House (if it is available that night). Our club meeting that morning will be an assembly, so come prepared.

President Elect Dianne has been working on putting her Executive together. As President Elect for this Rotary year, Dianne will be our President starting July 1, 2004. It is customary to elect (or usually acclaim) the executive that will take office then, during December. As of this morning, we have no one who has been wiling to become President Elect (and thus President for the year starting July 1, 2005). Lawrence (with a plea for help with desk duties - why aren't the Greeters doing that job??) has agreed to be Treasurer for another year. Diana has agreed to continue in Vocational Service. No one has let their names stand yet for Club Service or Community Service. Beyond these actual Executive positions, we have other positions that are open. President Hilda has agreed to take on fundraising, Maurice, to continue with Rotary Foundation, Ken to do the newsletter, Jean-Marc to do programs, Matt to take on Fellowship, Doug, Special Programs, Jeff for Schools and John for Rotary House and Engine Raffle. President Elect Dianne may be calling you. Please be ready to say YES.

President Hilda recognized Doug's January 4 birthday and also passed on Birthday greetings to Stella. Both are Capricorns, who are yes people, people who get things done, doing more for others than they do for themselves.

Maurice introduced Sherwood Moore who spoke to us about the COPS program in which he is involved. This volunteer group does afternoon or evening patrols to assist the RCMP in our community. Sherwood is one of the two directors of the organization and also does volunteer shifts. In our community, it seems like their primary role is reducing vandalism as we live in one of the most well behaved communities in the country. The RCMP and the Town both welcome the efforts of COPS and work with them to help them achieve their goals.

The group has become smaller in recent years and is finding it a stretch to fill all of their shifts. They welcome volunteers. President Hilda has some of their forms for those interested.

In closing, amongst the fines handed out, was one for Brady himself for advertising his new business, Brady's Quality Signs.
