January 14, 2002

President George welcomed Daryl Craig and Emma Lamperson as visitors this morning in addition to Claude and Linda Levesque, our guest speakers. Before we got to our program though, we did Happy Birthday, as few others do it, for Hilda Perry

President George thanked Diane O'Brien for the fabulous job that she and her team did putting the Rotary House Opening together on Saturday January 12. We had a good turnout and enjoyed hearing a bit of the history from several of the Pythians before Mayor Westbroek cut the ribbon.

We have a new place to store Garage Sale items. It is in the former office of Dr. Jack Bowie at High Gate on Beach Road. It is right behind Don's Lock. Keys are available nearby at Jean-Marc's office (Global Geomatics, also in HighGate on the corner of Beach and Mill Road) or from Greg, Diana or John Medd.

Our Vocational Service Director, Ed Fougner announced that a 12 year old has been selected to attend the International Children's Conference on the Environment that takes place in Victoria May 21-25, 2002. Eight hundred children from around the world are expected to attend.

President George announced that the four Oceanside clubs have agreed to get together and do what we did last year with a full page newspaper ad promoting Rotary. These will appear in Saturday editions of the local papers in Spring or Summer.

The Port Alberni Hospital work party will assemble at 9:30 am, Sunday, January 20 in the oceanside parking area in front of the Old Dutch Inn. There are a hundred beds available in the hospital and they are ours to get for Poco a Poco.

There are now 3 members who are headed to the Assembly. Mac has some forms or you can register online at the Assembly web site. All of the incoming Executive are expected to attend and all members, especially new members are encouraged to go.

Our speakers this morning were Claude and Linda Levesque. Like so many others, Claude and Linda are volunteers at the North Island Wildlife Recovery Centre. A video of their operation was presented. For further information, click on the link to Association's web site.
