July 17, 2001 Although we missed Laara, Diane, Brady and Gerry this morning, we had a number of guests and visitors. Mary P introduced Pat Dennison. Ian introduced his brother Rob Lindsay who is here re doing their mom's roof as well as fellow Re/Max person John Sandiford. Hilda introduced Paul and Linda Manning who are the proprietors of the local health food store. Although President George had no birthdays or anniversary's to announce, he did remind us that the club executive meets tonight at 7 pm at Re/Max. Mac handed out the dues invoices. They are $120 but go up to $130 if not paid by July 31. Past President Greg advised the members that a group he is involved with is having a garage sale on September 22 to raise funds for a single mother in the area who is seriously ill. Greg requests that anyone who has garage sale material they would like picked up give him a call. Greg's home number is 752-1097 and at work he can be found at 951-2000. President George reminds us that next week our District Governor and his partner will be in attendance. Perfect attendance pins will be handed out as will our first annual Special Service Award. Mary Brouilette will be receiving that award. Check out another of Mary's many accolades here. (You will need to use be Back Button in your browser to get back here. Our speaker this morning was Pat Dennison who has been a financial planner in the area for 15 years. Her topic, part of the series Mary P has arranged, was Estate Planning. Pat covered a lot of ground in short order. She explained that one needs to think of estate planning in parts. In addition to creating an estate, we need to consider preserving it and then how it will be distributed. It was this last part that was her focus this morning. She outlined the importance of a will along with other methods of distributing property including joint ownership, beneficiary designations and the use of insurance. Some of these offer a saving in legal and probate costs. She emphasized that in such matters it is important to get proper advice from an accountant, lawyer or financial planner. Pat, who will round out this series on July 31, was thanked by Ron. Guest Linda Manning won the right to lose the draw which she did. The $252 prize will carry over once again. Jeff T filled in for Jim in the Sgt department and collected a bin full of loonies from our happy group. The meeting adjourned early. |
