At 3 pm my sister and I left from school early on Friday, May 2, 2003. After struggling to cram everything into the trunk we left home. We drove all evening till 10 pm. When we got to Regina we slept there in a Super 8.

Packing up the car before leaving

Early in the morning we left Regina and drove all day until we got to Canmore. We arrived in this city at about 4 pm and then ate our supper in our suite. That evening we went for a walk along a river that went through Canmore.

Saskatchewan, naturally boring

The next day left at 8 am. Throughout the day we drove through the mountains stopping at different places to take pictures and explore. The first place we got to was Johnson Canyon. This was probably the nicest place we saw. After convincing my mom, we walked through the canyon until we got to the lower falls.

Alberta border

Seeing a waterfall for the first time in my life was pretty exciting. The second location we stopped at was Lake Louise. Apparently it's supposed to be very beautiful but when we got there we were a bit disappointed. All we saw was a bit of water on the shore and the rest was covered with snow. After leaving Lake Louise we drove through the park up till Jasper. This stretch of road was probably the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. As we drove north there was less and less snow until there was none. Before we exited the park, a big herd of mountian goats came along and crossed the road. They blocked our way for a while but we took a couple pictures. We finally arrived in Edmonton at 6 pm where we settled in our motel and had supper. We just took it easy that night and slept till the next morning. It felt nice sleeping in for once. At 10 am we drove to the West Edmonton Mall. Throughout the whole day we when on a roller coaster, saw the dolphin show, wenting sliding on the water slides, and swam in the heated wave pool.

What I saw as I was cramed in the back seat

We went back to our motel to have supper and the next morning we left the city. It felt good to get away from all that snow in Edmonton. Driving from Edmonton to Winnipeg was VERY long. After driving for 16 hours strait we finaly arrived late in Winnipeg where it was pourring rain. It felt good coming back to a city with warm weather but driving to the mountains would be something that I would definitely do again!

  • If you have a mother, don't bring her when you go through Johnson Canyon.
  • Don't forget your coat when you go to the rockies.
  • Don't go to the Rockies when there's a snow storm warning.
  • If your driving in a small car try to make it so you don't get stuck in the back seat with a cooler in the middle.
  • Edmonton is ugly when it's covered with snow.
  • West Edmonton Mall isn't as big as it looks.
  • If your in the West Edmonton Mall, go in the world water park. It's expensive but it's worth it!
  • Don't chicken out of going on the roller coaster. It's the best!
  • Don't pay to see the dolphin show in the West Edmonton Mall.
  • Don't run towards a male elk.
  • Don't hit the giant herds of mountain sheep crossing the highway.
  • Don't visit Regina.
  • Don't sleep in a Super 8.
  • Watch out for semis. They're big and they speed.
  • Don't waste your photos on Saskatchewan.
  • If it wasn't for the mountains, Alberta would be as boring as Saskatchewan.
  • Driving from Banff to Jasper is something you won't forget.
  • Believe the crazy skiiers that go down any mountain side when they say that they walk up to the top.
  • If you have a sister split up when your in the mall.
  • Sleep a lot in the car. You'll feel better and the time goes by faster.
  • At least Winnipeg's winters don't last till May.
  • If you're staying in Canmore stay in Canmore suites. The view is beautiful, the room is nice, the people are nice, and it's cheap.
  • If you have a father tell him to go on some fast water slides in the water park. You'll get a good laugh.
  • Avoid falling off the cliffs in Johnson Canyon.
  • Lake Louise isn't spectacular when it's covered with snow.
  • At least Winnipegs summers are hot.
  • Spring hill is pethetic.
  • In Manitoba, we don't have mountains.
  • If you haven't seen the rockies, go now.
  • Don't go for a bathroom break at a gas station in a hick town.
  • Try not to go on a road trip with people with over active bladders.
  • Try not to eat too much fries in one day.
  • If someone in your car REALLY has to go, try not to make them laugh.

My ideas mostly come from things that I have seen but sometimes my friends or my familly suggest ideas. Thinking of ideas is not easy because I want to make the animation creative and funny. Also when I'm making Mr.Badluck episodes I want to make sure they're not too violent but that Mr.Badluck gets hurt enough for it to be funny. When I have my idea all thought out I go to the next step. Now comes the creative part. For this step I must find the setting and props. Usually for the props I use mircosoft clip art but for the setting I usually draw it on Paint or Image Composer. The character Mr.Badluck was drawn as a test to see how my GIF animator worked. Ever since then I've used the exact same drawing for Mr.Badluck. Sometimes things can get complicated and I have to make it so the props can move parts. For this I have to cut the image into separate parts and when it comes to the animating I have to move each part individually. This takes longer but it adds more life to the animation. When I have everything I need I can start the fun part. The forth step is when I start animating. For this I open up image composer where I can move all my props and setting individally. When I animate I mostly just move the props or rotate them. It gets more complicated when there are moving parts on a prop because I have to move every part individualy. Some times I add special effects like camera shaking or smoke. For camera shaking I just move all the props and the setting together up and down. For effects like smoke I just use partially transparent circles and I make them move and then slowly diappear. Another important part of the animation is the text. Because I can't put sound in my animation I use text to show sounds or dialogue. For text I simply write what I want and then put it in the animation for a couple frames so you can read it and then take it out. After I finish each frame I save it then I put it into Microsoft GIF Animator. When the animating is done I move on. Step five is when I put how long each frame should last. For this I go into Microsoft GIF Animator and enter a number for each frame. The number indicates the amount of 1/100s of a second a frame lasts. Usually each frame is 8 1/100s of a second but when there's dialogue it lasts about 2 to 3 seconds depending on how long it is. This part takes long especially when there are lots of frames but when I'm done this I can watch my animation. After this there's only one more step. The last thing I do is open up CuteHTML and put in the code to place my animation on a web page. Next I add the animation to the menu. After that I upload the page and the animation to my webspace using CuteFTP. When this is done I go check if all the links work and then show the animation to my friends and familly.
