View Latest Updates		Joseph Charles Chaboyer Welcome to the Chaboyer / Chaboillez web site. During the 18^th and early part of the 19^th centuries, the Chaboillez name would have been well known throughout much of America and Canada. History identifies them as being among the earliest of the Voyageurs who grew wealthy from the rewards of the Fur Trade. They not only married into and associated with the rich and famous, but also the native Indians. As the states of America and the provinces of Canada were forming, the family’s prominence was fading. Their Forts and Trading Posts, which once shaped the horizons of these vast prairies, are now gone. Today the landscape reveals very little of these Chaboillez families. Their history remains only in text and a few scattered graves. Chaboillez ~ Chaboyer Fact or Legend ? Family legend says that the present day Chaboyer families are direct descendants of the Chaboillez’s, but as yet it has not been possible to prove a link between the two. The first reference to the name Chaboyer comes with Louis Chaboyer, who was born about 1801-1803. We have not yet traced any firm evidence of these dates or reference to his parents. He may have had a brother Pierre and a sister Nancy, but as yet we have very little information about either. Our genealogy research shows that most of the present day Chaboyer families are direct descendents of Louis Chaboyer. We trust that our website will assist the families in tracing their ancestry, history and relatives and that in doing so we can provide a more fitting memory than a few scattered graves.
