MACKINAC ISLAND

My daughter, Cathy, prior to Mackinac sail
Mackinac Island is in Lake Huron, 5 miles SE of St Ignace, Michigan. It is quite unique because vehicles are not allowed with horse and carriage the only mode of transportation. Bicycles are available for hire and many travel via the flat 8 mile road around the circumference, the inland roads being somewhat hilly.
Access to the island for landlubbers is aboard high speed ferries from St. Ignace or Mackinaw City. For boaters there is limited dockage and an anchorage with poor holding.
In moderate conditions, we can sail the 130 miles
in
4 days with stops in Gore Bay, Meldrum Bay and Detour Village, MI.
