Information on Computer Viruses

It has been my experience that many schools are in the habit of  prohibiting students from transporting their files between home and the school (by diskette or email) because of the threat of computer viruses. These viruses are a real threat to the well being of a computer system but preventing students from transferring files is not the answer to this problem because it inhibits the students progress at the same time.

The solution is that all computers should have adequate and current AntiVirus software installed and set to regularly check all files on the computer. These programs should be updated regularly, at least weekly, and all computer users should be trained how to recognize suspicious email messages. Disks being transported between computers should always be scanned for viruses before opening any files.

With these precautions in place there is little or no danger of computer viruses spreading.
