British Columbia Forest Museum
The British Columbia Forest Museum looks after the British Columbia Forest Discovery Centre in Duncan. Founded in 1958, the West Coast Railway Association has collected and restored 2 steam locomotives, 11 diesel locomotives, and other various rolling stock. A 12 acre park known as the West Coast Railway Heritage Park, was acquired to display their collection. The Association has restored Royal Hudson #2860 back to operation and is undergoing an expansion of the Railway Heritage Park facilities. The Western Vancouver Island Industrial Heritage Society (WVIIHS) was founded in 1980 for the purpose of restoring Alberni Pacific Shay #2, the 2-Spot. The society has acquired various other rolling stock, as well as, MacMillan Bloedel steam locomotive #1055, which the society restored back to it's Alberni Pacific #7 appearance. Currently, the society is running the Alberni Pacific Railway and also looking after the McLean Mill National Historic Site. Future goals include the addition of the Arrowsmith Explorer excursion to Parksville. The society also has a collection of small industrial gas powered engines, vintage logging trucks, and also an operational steam donkey.
