Saskatchewanians Speak

Saskatchewanians Speak By the end of the March week that Prairie Giant aired, a letter was sent to the CBC requesting that all references to Jimmy Gardiner be dubbed out of the movie prior to DVD distribution scheduled for early May. Before the family received any acknowledgement from the CBC, Saskatchewanians had begun to speak out on radio shows and though letters to the Editor. The Leader-Post was the depository for most of the letters. The letters from the Leader-Post were gathered most easily by Gardiner family members and friends in Regina. Although other newspapers across the country also printed letters, due to technological limitations and inexperience only a few were obtained. The controversy has been followed on many blogs, particularly political blogs such as Free Dominion and Rabble and the CBC blogs. The Johnsrude blog (Edmonton Journal), Canadian History News (northernblue.ca), and the Social Sciences and Humanities discussion forum (h-net.org) contain summaries and discussions. Letters to the Editor appearing in the Leader-Post from March 18 through August 9, 2006 have been reproduced: Letters printed March 18 - March 30 Letters printed April 12 - June 16 Letters printed July 1- August 9 _______________________________________________________________________ Gardiner is to Saskatchewan what Douglas is to the NDP
