Open Letter to Historians

Grandfather Article

June 30th Challenge

In addition to submissions to the CBC, the Gardiner family has sought support from other Canadians who are, or should be, concerned about the actions taken by the CBC as a publicly funded body.

Canada's historians, as custodians our history, should be concerned about the distortion of historical fact used in Prairie Giant and other movies of this genre. This Open Letter to Historians was directed to them.

The family's position needed to be expressed to Canadians. The Leader Post published the April letter written by two of Jimmy Gardiner's grandchildren.

The CBC, Minds Eye Productions, director John Smith, and his son and scriptwriter Bruce Smith supported the history behind Prairie Giant. On June 12th, 2006, the CBC acknowledged historical problems with the script and the mischaracterization of Jimmy Gardiner. We challenge the Smiths' continued assertion of the alleged historical accuracy of the script.
