Powell River Community Band ARTICLE 1 - NAME The name of this organization is the Powell River Community Band, herein after called "the band". ARTICLE 2 - OBJECTIVE The objective of the band is to: operate and maintain a community-based brass-reed band and associated ensembles in the Powell River area, encourage and provide opportunities for adults and students to develop and express their musical talent, and hold public band concerts to showcase the Concert Band and associated ensembles. ARTICLE 3 - EXECUTIVE The executive body shall consist of the following Officers: President Secretary/Treasurer Librarian Director(s) at Large (number to be selected by vote at a general meeting) Past President (advisor, non-voting, most recent past president willing to serve) ARTICLE 4 - MEMBERSHIP Any adult or student with basic band experience may apply to be a member. To remain in good standing, members must have paid their prescribed dues for the upcoming half-year and attend practices regularly unless excused by the conductor. ARTICLE 5 - CONDUCTOR The Conductor is the musical director of the band, has final decision on the musical programme, and will assign members to the position they play in the band. The membership shall select or reconfirm the Conductor appointment at the annual meeting. As a paid position, the Conductor is an advisor and non-voting member of the executive. ARTICLE 6 - AUDITORS The executive shall appoint two volunteer auditors at the annual general meeting. ARTICLE 7 - AMENDMENT This Constitution may be amended, added to or deleted from at a general meeting by a majority vote of those present. Quorum is 50% of members in good standing. By-laws may be amended by majority vote of the Executive and ratified at the next general meeting. ARTICLE 8 - GENERAL MEETINGS The Annual General Meeting will be held in January each year. Executive appointments are effective Feb 1. Any six band members may call a General Meeting on two weeks notice. Quorum for general meetings shall be one half of the number of members in good standing. Updated: Feb 9, 1999
