The following is the actual text of my travel journal written on my recent trip to Scotland, England, and Paris. The text written in italics is stuff I've added for the web to clarify or add etc. I've tried to correct the grammar but even I can't be perfect.
Day One (and Two)
May 3rd and 4th, 2000
Well, this day has finally arrived and believe it or not I feel I've had a good night's sleep despite the excitement and waking up several times to got to the washroom and then finally waking up at the paltry hour of 7:30 am.
The weather tricked us into thinking it would be sunny but by around 10 am the patchy cloud rolled in and the rain burst forth in patches.
The sense I had of death around this day was unfortunately confirmed. Just minutes before we were due to leave for the Duke Point Ferry a woman called to let us know my dad's uncle Norm had died just last night. Although I wouldn't say we were close now, we certainly used to have quite a frequent relationship. We visited them often enough that although I don't feel like crying about it I am saddened by his death. I will always remember him as a gruff but happy fella with a good story to tell.
At any rate we made it to the Ferry with minutes to spare. The rain that looked as though it may subside has completely engulfed the Straight of Georgia, driven white caps into the water and whited out the surrounding land. The sea is a lovely shade of jade green though.
The taxi was good. It cost about $42.00 just like everyone said, and what we had thought. The driver was fairly good too.
We got to the airport just a half hour before we could check in and get our boarding passes which meant we were about 3rd in line. It worked out well to subside some of our excitement. We managed to get four seats together and near the washroom. Then we walked around a bit and saw the new section of the Vancouver Airport. There is this very interesting Brass sculpture with the natives rowing a boat, very neat. And they'd stained it somehow to make it look green but not the regular brass green, it almost looked like jade.
We made our way to a seat in the US departures area.
We sat there and waited for Wendy to bring us our Heritage passes, and of course for the time to go by. We still had 3 hrs to go right?!
She found us okay and she had the passes. The news about the car wasn't all that great, we should have made arrangements earlier for an upgrade but that's the way it is sometimes.
