Why I bought it (August 2000): I have loved sports cars, specifically older English cars, ever since I can remember. I was working on my TR3 one day and thinking, "on a nice day what, car will I drive: my TR3 or my TR4?" Then it hit me: nine times out of ten, it will be my TR3! So I asked myself why I have two cars that are so similar (many ask why I have more than one “toy” car to begin with...well, it just happens). If I'm going to have more than one “toy” car, why not have cars that are completely different from each other?
I first thought of an Austin Healey; heck, it fits four! My family's main comment about my cars has always been that they only seat 2. But I soon found out that they were out of my price range. I have always loved TVR's ever since a buddy of mine had three of them some 20 years back. So, with a little work, I found one. It was by chance at Len Drake's (an English car dealer in Kelowna, BC), who I deal with for most of my parts. After a few emails back and forth, he offered me a trade plus "x" amount of cash for my TR4A. Plus delivery to my door (a full day's drive each way). The deal was done, and I had another project to get started on!
Why I sold it (August 2010): I sold it for much the same reason as I bought it: I now have a Grantura 2/3 built at the time of the sale, and it will be on the road next summer, so why do I need two TVR’s? I sold this car and bought a BMW Z3, of all things! For years, I have loved the styling of the Z4, but after test driving a couple, I found that this was not the car for me (other than for the style!). I then drove a Z3, and it turned out to be the perfect car for my purposes. To make a long story short, I have been wanting a more “normal” car for my day-to-day driving around - something I can drive in the rain, at night, and in standstill traffic without getting worried. The fact that it has "all the extras," I must admit, is kind of nice as I get older.
