Released originally as a promotional record included in The Beatles Collection box set Rarities contains 17 songs not available on regular-release British LPs. EMI wished to keep
the same sound as on the EPs and singles these songs were released on, so tracks originally released in
mono were rereleased in mono. Rarities was scheduled for release in the US, but was canceled in
the middle of the first pressing and all copies were ordered to be destroyed (all though a few made their
way in to the collector's market and are very valuable). Features linear notes by Hugh Fielder, a writer
for the British music magazine "Sounds". One head-scratching omission is Hey
Jude.
