Think of AC as being 60 pulses of voltage a second ,each pulse
goes positive then
negetive a fraction of second later...and on and on.
Rectifiers act the same as check valves in that they will only
allow the voltage
to go in one direction, either positive or negative ...but....they
are are still
passing voltage in pulses thats why your meter sees it as both
AC DC.
A capacitor works the same as a flywheel in that it turns the
power pulses into a
smoother flater wave...the bigger the cap...the flater the wave.
