Some random thoughts: Ballscrew mounting is easy to take for granted but it
determines the final backlash you'll have. It's as important as the nut. There
are special double row bearings made just for this in bearing catalogues. They
may be too expensive for you project but you may be able to use cheap bearings
with wavy spring washers to take up slack or tapered rollers, you won't be able
to use the existing mounts without some modification but this is the fun part!
