[Thought I'd break my post into different topics]

Now I am investigating the mounting of these at the machined ends. (I think
I have the ball nut mounting figured out using the flange.)

I took my longitudinal leadscrew out of my mill/drill today. The end of the
leadscrew without the marked calibration collar is simple. Just a 3.5"
straight shaft.

The other end is sort of hidden. The hand wheel clutch (that thing with
three teeth that interface with the three teeth on the hand wheel) is
attached to the lead screw with a spring pin (one of those springy rolled
pieces of sheet metal.). The hole for this spring roller goes right through
the leadscrews diameter.

I didn't want to take this spring pin out because basically I have no idea
how to and if I was successful I might not be able to get it back in.

I looked on the exploded parts diagram for my mill and it show that there
are a total of five parts on the lead screw at that end. In order from near
the centre (Canadian, eh) of the table

-511510 or some number
-the rectagular mounting plate with two through bolt holes to mount to the
table and an oiling port.
-511510 again
-handwheel clutch held in place by a roller pin
-hand wheel

Well 511510 isn't much of a part discription but I can tell there is a ball
bearing race in there somewhere because the rectanglar mounting plate spins
very easily on the leadscrew.

I know there are no questions in there but if you have any comments or
suggestions about how to mount lead screws I would appeciate reading about
them.

Thanks,
Peter
