.0005"/Ft is definitely a high accuracy screw, and you
WILL pay for that. HiWin and Rockland may be able to do a little
better. Actually, the $22/In figure sounds a bit wierd. I really
think that making a 1" long screw with that accuracy is NO
BIGGIE, and the price should come way down. Making a 6 Foot screw
that is consistantly
accurate to .0005"/Ft measured from anywhere to anywhere
1 foot away is tough, and you will pay more. So, the thing might
actually get MORE expensive, the more length
you buy - kind of a reverse quantity discount.
The Ball nuts and machining are way out of line with the stuff I'm familiar with. But, for a quantity one order, this may be their rates. You might buy a Bridgeport retrofit kit in the accuracy you need, and modify it as needed for your use. Since they make these up in large batches, the cost is a LOT lower!
