Hi Larry,
You're the guy I've been looking for!! Someone with experience
with various
methods of CNC conversions.
Thanks for the great info. That is the best I have received
yet. Really good
to know about which systems are pathetically bad.
I may need some contouring so if you could elaborate on why
the Ahha system
is lacking in that area that would help me understand thing better.
What type of Grizzly mini mill do you have? Is it one very
similar to mine:

The reason I am so curious is because I would like to know what
type of
motors you have on it and if they have suffient torque for brass
and
aluminum. Getting underpowered motors is my worst fear and overpowered
may
be just a waste of money. The guys at Ahha suggested 450 oz-in,
5.2 Amp
bipolar and I don't know if that is just enough or plenty.
I was checking out the Yeager software today. Looks good but
I am
intimidated about building my own stepper drivers, although I
am not totaly
opposed if there are good instructions and the savings are substantial.
If
you could help me sort to the pertanant stuff on the
http://www.anaheimautomation.com/ site I would be very grateful.
I find
sorting through all this stuff difficult as I am new to the CNC
world.
If you were in my position with one milling machine to convert
what would
you do? Get complete Ahha system, build your own drivers and use
Yeager
software, or use flashcut, or...?
Thanks,
Peter
