Stay far far away from the Supertech system. I've tried it
and it's junk
compared to Ahha. Stay away from
Buchannon Microsystems and MaxNC.
I have the Ahha Artisan and the Ahha Pro. I've used it a LOT.
No problems.
Artisan is on a CNC router table and Pro is on a Sherline mill.
Flashcut is another good controller if you want Windows. www.flashcutcnc.com
I have that for my Shoptask.
Another good controller I've been testing lately is CncPro
from
http://pwp.value.net/yeager/cncpro/
It runs in Dos and uses standard parallel ports for control. No
add in card
necessary like Ahha.
That's on my Grizzly mini mill.
Ahha runs in pure DOS and can run happily on an old 486 machine.
But the
conturing feature is very very lacking.
Flashcut runs on Windows so it needs a Pentium 200 or higher.
It's conturing
is much better than Ahha.
Ahha does HPGL files, Flashcut does not. Both do great G code.
CncPro has
great conturing functions like Flashcut
and will run on plain DOS with a simple 486 as well. But Cncpro
doesn't have
as many options as Ahha like spindle
encoder support for threading on a lathe, 4th axis, serial port
drip feed
etc... None of this will likey make any difference to you though.
I have
used none of those features on my 3 mills.
I'm using both drivers I built myself and commercial drivers
from

The hardest part of your CNC conversion is going to be mounting
your motors
and limit switches on your hardware.
The rest of it is no big deal really. Once you have it working
well, you'll
be amazed at what it can do for you.
