The extra card, which is used in the Ah-ha system, will give you more speed
than a parallel port.
I have been using an Ah-ha system with 650 oz.in. motors for about 5 years
and don't have anything bad to say about my experience with the system or
the support. I am working on another machine now and decided to try the
linux build your own approach. I would not spend the time doing this if I
did not already have my Ah-ha machine to make parts. I think a kit makes
sense for a first CNC machine. I have been very happy with my Ah-ha kit.
