Hi Jerry,
I just read most of your website. Great stuff. I especially
like the article
about servos versus steppers. The discussion of stepper skip is
where my
main concern lies in purchasing stepper motors.
The system I am considering buying from Ah-ha (http://www.ahha.com/)
has 450
oz-in steppers. Do you think this is enough torque? If I have
higher torque
then stepper skip is less likely, correct? My feeds will be about
8 inches
per minute which is 80 revolutions per minute for the stepper
motor. Perhaps
I should be up around 600-800 oz-in. Perhaps you could write an
article on
motor selection.
The Ah-ha system also has limit switches to home the milling
table incase
stepper skip has occured. This sounds like pseudo-feedback to
me. How likely
is stepper skip and how often would you home? After every cut?
I realize
this will take experimentation and experince but if you have a
ballpark idea
I am interested in what you think.
Thanks again,
Peter
