Our Trip to the Coast - August 5-11
On our last trip together as a family for the next few months Pat, Lisa and I
took off for a week on the - usually - wet coast to join Ray and Edie Harris for a cruise on
their beautiful 48 ft yacht, Serenity 1. Edie and Ray were perfect hosts. Edie had stocked the
fridge with our favorite beverages and managed to keep us extremely well fed during our
sailboat ride from their berth at Port Moody to Gibsons and the Sunshine Coast. The
weather was splendid, the seas were calm and the most serious problem encountered was the
sunshine. I got quite badly burned but received little sympathy from the rest of the crew
who immediately named me "lobster boy." To finish off the trip in
style, we headed up Indian Arm where Ray managed a tricky manoeuvre to bring us alongside the dock at
Dianne Jamieson's cabin in Deep Cove. Dianne, her mom, brother and sister and a whole
gaggle of friends were waiting for us with a mouth-watering barbeque of fresh sockeye
salmon,chicken and corn.
Pat & I hitched a ride back to Vancouver for a couple of nights with
Dianne's mom, Nancy, at her apartment in Kerrisdale while Lisa went to Delta where she teamed
up with her uncles, Thorn and Olav Grabi, and their families. Our timing was good: Pat
& I witnessed the final night of the fireworks competition and also attended the
delightful wedding of our friends Bob & Ellie Gunning. I left Pat in the lurch for a
day while I joined Arnie & Karen Fisk and their daughters Caroline & Elaine, and our
good friend Linda Talmadge (who was visiting from UK) on a cruise on the Fraser River to get
up close and personal with the Tall Ships.
It was a great trip, and everyone that helped us make it such a success:
Thank You!
