 Our Honeymoon in the Caribbean

At the end of October we took a 16 day honeymoon cruise in the Caribbean aboard a brand new liner, the Silverseas Lines "Silver Whisper."

Apart from the fabulous food and free drinks, the real appeal of the Silver Whisper is that at 28,000T it can access a lot of ports that are too tight for the big cruisers that weigh in at 100,000T and more.

Leaving Ft. Lauderdale in Florida, we steamed right past the Bahamas, Cuba, Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, and headed due south for the islands known geographically as the Lesser Antilles. Our first island call was Tortola in the British Virgin Islands followed by St. Bartholemy in the French West Indies, then St. Lucia, Bequia in the Grenadines, Barbados and Grenada. We almost touched the tip of South America at Los Roques, Venezuela, and then docked for a day at Aruba in the Dutch Antilles, before heading back north to the Cayman Islands, a day at Busch Gardens in Tampa, Florida, and we finally departed our "love boat" in New Orleans.

Although we only had a chance to spend part of a day in each port, we are definitely going back for a second look at several of the islands. It was the "honeymoon of a lifetime" but we had waited a long time for it and figured we deserved it!

On-board ship activities largely centred around the pool.

We were lucky — most of the animals were outside "catching rays" when we visited Busch Gardens.

We saw lots of picturesque side street courtyards just off Bourbon Street in the French Quarter.

Our final formal night aboard the Silver Whisper — all dreams must end ... ah, but the memories!
