July 1 Bocce Ball Invitational and BBQ
On July 1 we celebrated a back yard combined birthday party for Pat, Canada and our friend Sharron Wooldridge. The weather wasn't the greatest-it was cool
and windy, but we made the most of it with plenty of beer and slushies and bocce and birthday
cake.
The 90 people who showed up agreed that it wasn't a bad time at all! Mary Ann
Korolyk and Garry Ritter won the fierce fight for the trophy in the bocce competition. And
Porky the BBQ'd pig was cut to ribbons in a splendid ceremonial slashing by Chef
Steven from Elizabethan Catering.
Despite the great Alberta drought, Pat managed to make the back yard look good
for the party, although she admits it was "a close thing." We had to endure
the infamous bucket brigade torture for almost a month when Sturgeon County cut off all outside
water. To make matters worse, two days before the party, we were hit by a mean hail
storm that literally shredded most of our plants. Pat made a fast dash to Hole's
Greenhouses and bought a couple pf bushels of blooming plants so the yard wouldn't look
totally devastated!
