While the Shadow Wars were won, it came at a great cost. The King was dead, and his son, whom he had left to rule in his stead,
had also disappeared in the ensuing chaos. Darkslayer had of course disappeared with King Morias, as had the sword of Eth'vealathesti.
The steward of the house of Darksbane was appointed to rule, but it seemed nothing was the same. It was around this time that the
Council of Five decided that something must be done. Pooling their immense power, they stabilized Pyraas and stopped its drifting.
In doing this, they also locked off Pyraas's immense magical power. Previously, it had been at the point where nearly anyone with a few
minutes of study could wield nominal magical powers. After it was locked off, only the greatest of mages could use even minor magic.
The Council then created magica crystals, made out of condensed pure magical energy. Each one contained the focus of one spell,
and advance mages could blend them to make crystals with multiple spells. It was later discovered that the crystals could even absorb
energy from around them, and grow in power and even replicate. The new crystals allowed mages to use magic once again, without
putting the world at risk of another invasion. The regent lords of the Empire worked hard to return it to its former
state, but while they did a good job, they could not completely drive out the smaller monsters that had resurfaced during the war.
The last of the mythril dragons were slain as well, and the only known mythril mine in the world was lost. Darkslayer, being a holy relic, can not truly be destroyed. It waits in the holy cave for someone of the royal bloodline to return and claim it. The sword of Eth'vealathesti may have been recovered by someone, but that remains to be seen... |
