The Shadow Wars

In the Age of Chaos, times were pretty good, just, well, chaotic. Then came the Darksbane Empire, and with it, the Age of Dreams, and things were near perfect. All this came to a crashing end with the coming of the demons. Led by the Dark One N'aitar himself, together with the undead as their allies, the demons shattered the idyllic peace of Pyraas. They spewed forth from Morgaelin, and gradually, their dark stain spread across West Anor. When they crossed the Mohorovic Mountains, however, they met with fierce resistance from the Empire, with the elves, the dwarves, and the good dragons at their sides. The 'holy army,' as it was called, was led by King Morias Darksbane II, and the great elven hero Eth'vealathesti. Try as they might, they could not stem the dark tide. Eventually, the realized what must be done. Leaving their sons in command of the army, they journeyed alone to the peak of Morgaelin, and there, from the source, they sacrificed themselves to seal the demons and their lord N'aitar away forever.

People of Pyraas do not know that their world's drifting is not completely random, and that one cycle takes approximately 2000 years. They do know, however, that that fateful night coincides almost exactly with the cycle of the three moons (thus the nickname 'the eye of N'aitar'). What actually happened was a massive portal opening between Gehenna and Pyraas, centered over Morgaelin. N'aitar, who already existed there, took advantage of this to raise a massive army of demons for the conquest he had long planned. When he was overthrown, Kirulin was simply taking advantage of the power of King Morias and Eth'vealathesti to seal the demons and their lord inside Morgaelin (thus the misunderstanding that they originated from there). While they were killed, they did not actually sacrifice themselves (though they gladly would have).
