Emergency Procedures

Fire

The building in which Parkdale Early Childhood Centre is housed is wired with a security system which includes a fire alarm system. In addition, there are numerous smoke detectors throughout the building. A fire drill will be held every second month. During fire drills, a loud bell will be rung by a staff member in simulation of the fire alarm system.

Upon the ringing of the alarm, calmly the children and staff will vacate the building via the safest exit. Exits accessible within the daycare are:

In the event of an actual fire, these procedures will be followed. In addition, parents will be notified as soon as possible.

Earthquake

Upon the ringing of the alarm, the staff will have all children go under the tables that are closest to their activity area. After one minute the children and staff will vacate the building via the safest exit. Following this, the same procedures will apply as in the event of fire.
