Marilyn Leggett, Having spoken to relatives and gleaned as much info. as I can from them, who are all in their 80's (my mother's generation), re. the Gloucester / Cheltenham COLLEY's there are two main things I am setting out to prove/disprove:-
i) this family of COLLEY's came originally from Ireland - Sligo - in a windjammer!
ii) William Henry COLLEY b.19th Jan. 1861 at Heritage Place, Cheltenham was a cousin of Ellen TERRY, the actress.
William Henry COLLEY (b.19/1/1861 Cheltenham) m. 1/3/181885 Phoebe Selina Bullock BALLINGER (b.17/4/1863 Huntley) at Longhope Parish Church. I do have all the brothers and sisters of W.H. COLLEY and some of their families Father of William Henry COLLEY, Joseph COLLEY b.abt.1835 Cheltenham m. 2/1/1859 ÊElizabeth STROUD b.1840 in Parish Church Cheltenham. I have 1 brother and 3 sisters of Joseph COLLEY. Father of Joseph COLLEY, William Coley b. abt. 1798 Badg(e)worth m. Rebecca b.abt. 1799 Westerleigh. Firstly I need to try to find William COLLEY (abt.1798) parents plus his brothers and sisters and this might assists me in solving both points mentioned. Would like to find out is about Phoebe Selina Bullock BALLINGER's family. ÊHer father was William Bullock BALLINGER b.abt 1833 Longhope, but her grandfather was William BULLOCK, a mason. ÊInfo. taken from Longhope Church register BALLINGER of William Bullock BALLINGER to Elizabeth DOBBINS 29/10/1854. I would like to find out when and why he added the name BALLINGER.
