Mark Chambers, I am researching my family history. My great grandfather James BRYANT was born in Hanham, Oldland on the 2nd August 1849. He was a master mason by trade and settled and married at Askern near Doncaster, South Yorkshire.I am not clear why he came so far north, but he did establish a thriving mason and building business.I suspect he may have initially been employed at one of the estates in the Doncaster area, and this may have been through contacts in the Bristol area. His birth certificate shows that his father was also called James and he was a stone mason living at Hanham, Oldland and was married to Ann WILLIS. The Birth Certificate indicates the registration district of Keynsham and the the sub district of Oldland. I am having difficulty establishing any further leads. I have found an entry in the 1851 Census for Oldland for an Ann BRYANT aged 41 shoe binder born atÊHanham together with her 5 children all born at Hanham - one of which is James aged 1year.This could be my great grandfather, but there is no mention of his father in the Census.

Godfrey Grubb, my greatgrandfather, Samuel Gerrish
GODFREY, was born in Bitton in 1851. He married Sarah BUCK in Bristol in 1872 and later was to be found in Penarth, Glamorgan. He was a ships carpenter. I am interested in his ancestry. I have been unable to trace his parentage. His second name suggests that his mother may have been a GERRISH, which seems to have been quite a common name in the Bitton area, but I have found any links so far. Can anyone help please?

Jeff Short researching:- Evan
SHORT b1829 Bitton Gloustershire, England. I do not know his wife's name but he had 6 children as at 1850. They were Eliza b1856, Harry b1860, Elizabeth b1863, Alice b1865, Evan b1870 (my Great, Great grandfather) and Fred b1874. As Fred was born in 1874 Evan's wife would have been in her mid 40's I'm guessing she have died in childbirth.
Any help would be very much appreciated and if anyone requires information on Evan up to and including the present day please contact me.
