Paul Irving. researching James JONES, coal merchant of Uckington or Elmstone Hardwicke, buried 03-Nov-1850 aged 53 at Elmstone Hardwicke, and his family. I think James was probably married to the Mary JONES who is in the 1851 census at Uckington described as a coal dealer, aged 52 born Westbury on Severn, with her daughter Emma Lacy (24), son-in-law Richard Lacy, daughter Edith (12) & son John (8) . Emma (as Emma Jones) & Richard witnessed the wedding of Rosa JONES, daughter of James & my 3-greats grandmother, on 10-Nov-1850 at Elmstone Hardwicke.

Deborah R. Melvin, researching Jane, Mary and William WILKSHIRE, they were all listed in Up Hatherley. Jane married in Cheltenham in 1899 and moved Newport, Wales. Mary married in 1889 and moved to Naunton with her husband William PULHAM. Jane was my great-grandmother. I am just now finding out about the English side of my family. There has always been a bit of mystery due to a rift that occurred after my grandfather's death. Americans are obsessed with family trees, probably because we have lost touch with our real home soil and have a sense of loss. I can trace the MELVIN side of my family tree all the way back to the Danish conquest of Normandy. On my mother's maternal side of the family, I am just now finding out bits and pieces.

Alan Print. Researching the PRINT family in Elmstone Hardwicke from 1600. The family seems to have moved, possibly to Pinvin & Wyre Piddle in the mid 1600's, then to Hawling about 1700 and Ashton under Hill about 1733.

John Ellis, I am researching the history of the DEAR and BEARD families. My gg grandfather was Thomas DEAR (often spelled DEER), born in Hucclecote to Spencer and Elizabeth DEAR and christened at Churchdown on Feb 19 1797. My gg grandmother was Sarah BEARD, born abt 1798 in Barnwood (according to the 1881 census, though the 1861 gives Wootton). Because there are so many BEARDS in the area, her parentage is unclear. She may be the Sarah BEARD christened (rather late) on 28 December 1800 at St Mary de Lode, Gloucester, parents Samuel and Hannah BEARD. She married Thomas DEAR at St Mary de Lode on 18 November 1820, and the couple settled in Barton St Mary, later Barton St Michael. Giles BEARD (very near her in the 1841 and 1851 censuses, about 5 years younger) is probably Sarah's brother. If so, John BEARD (age 87 in 1841 in Barton St Mary) is either her father or grandfather.
