S.M.Stonefield, My great great grandfather lived in North NibleyÊ Gloucester, UK.,Êin the nineteenth century. His name was James SMETHAM and he married Harriet TURNER Êin 1822, in North Nibley. My great grandfather was born July 1822Ê in North Nibley. His name was Henry SMETHAM. My grandfather told me this, and I have confirmed it using the IGI Index. Four years later a James SMETHAM married an Elizabeth WYATT in North Nibley. (IGI Index) This I think is the James SMETHAM in the 1851 census for North Nibley, which suggests Harriet died, but I need to work on this. James was used quite often as a first name.
In the 1851 census James is recorded as CCW. Henry was a master weaver (my grandfather said so, and Henry's son mentioned it in a small booklet). so it is likely James was a weaver too so I suppose CW could stand for cloth weaver, the other C I don't know.
He was born, according to the census, in Ilnister, which I haven't found yet, but suspect it may be Ilminster - in Somerset perhaps.

Robert Stockwell, reaching Robert STOCKWELL who married Elizabeth (Betty) MUNDAY (MONDAY) in North Nibley in May 1760. The Parish marriage details imply Robert came from / lived in Bibury. I have not yet found any other record of him and would like to put a request up for information under Bibury and North Nibley. My ancestors seem to have been well spread across Gloucestershire; Bibury, North Nibley, Stroud, Saul, Kings Stanley, Leonard Stanley, and Dursley.

G R LEA. One of my ancestors, Charles LEE (1801-1879), married a Mary PULLIN (1813-1884), daughter of a prominent local man (Churchwarden, etc.) called Lawford PULLIN (1780-1853 - lived at Olveston House, Heath End - not far from Cromhall).
