who was an ancestor on my fathers side. Born in Painswick in 1805 married Mary LEVITT from Newbury. Moved to Brentford, Midd where he was a baker. Had 3 children Mary b. 1839 Kezia b. 1841 and Walter b. 1845. He died before 1861 but Mary carried on the bakery leaving after 1861. She was then listed with her daughter Kezia in 1881 aged 70 as a monthly nurse. Kezia married Henry C RUSSELL and one of her daughters another Kezia was my great-grandmother. Hope this may be of interest to anyone reasearching the SHEWELL's.

Kylie Pender, nee Beard, I am researching the BEARD family from Painswick, Gloucester, England. I am not sure but I think that my ancestor Samuel George BEARD, who was born 22 Jan 1797 and sent to Tasmania as a convict in 1820-1821, was from this area. I dont know what the name of his parents are but think it may be Samuel BEARD and Ann LURNEL, both from painswick.

Helene Marmen. Our ancestor's name is Samuel MARMAN. He was born in Painswick in 1772 and came to Quebec in 1812 to combat in the British Army during the 1812 War between Canada and U.S.A. (We found his PRO identification number online and my brother also visited the War Archives in London in 85, so we are sure he cames from Painswick!) He married a French Canadian woman, Christine Gagne, in Quebec City in 1813. When they moved to an entirely french speaking village and had their children, the MARMAN surname became MARMEN because both Samuel and Christine were illeterate and the priest spelled our surname with "e" instead of "a"!
