Pat Meaden,
I am researching the family of Jacob
SUMMERILL/SUMMERHILL, who according to the 1901 census was born in Kingswood. He was born abt 1855 and later moved to South Wales where he worked in the coalmines. On the 1901 census he is living with his wife Sarah who was also born in Gloucester, and his five children William, Elizabeth, Edith, Margaret and Beatrice.

Jane Williams, I would be delighted to hear from anyone who has these families in their 'Tree'
1903 June 1st. Henry Jonathan
GRIFFIN married Catherine Alice MORRIS at St Nicholas, Gloucester. (By 1908 they live in Wellingborough Northants.) I cannot find anything more about Catherine.
1901 : Census James
GRIFFIN at Pineapple Inn, Westgate with Harriet his wife
1891: Census James
GRIFFIN, Harriet and children including Henry at Lower Westgate St. Gloucester
1881: Census James
GRIFFIN, Harriet and children at Foundry House 'Island' Gloucester
1878 September 20th Henry Jonathan
GRIFFIN born to James GRIFFIN and Harriet, formerly WATHEN.
I cannot find a marriage between James and Harriet but have Harriet
WATHEN marrying James WILLIAMS in 1868.
1851: Census James
GRIFFIN, born at Over, wife Mary Ann and children, inc James age 10. Plus Jonathan, born at Over age 99 at 144 Westgate.
Harriet
WATHEN with father Benjamin (from Matson), mother, Elizabeth and siblings at 181 Westgate.
There is a Benjamin WATHER baptised at Matson in 1808; father Wm. mother Elizabeth.

John Ellis, I am researching the history of the DEAR and BEARD families. My gg grandfather was Thomas DEAR (often spelled DEER), born in Hucclecote to Spencer and Elizabeth DEAR and christened at Churchdown on Feb 19 1797. My gg grandmother was Sarah BEARD, born abt 1798 in Barnwood (according to the 1881 census, though the 1861 gives Wootton). Because there are so many BEARDS in the area, her parentage is unclear. She may be the Sarah BEARD christened (rather late) on 28 December 1800 at St Mary de Lode, Gloucester, parents Samuel and Hannah BEARD. She married Thomas DEAR at St Mary de Lode on 18 November 1820, and the couple settled in Barton St Mary, later Barton St Michael. Giles BEARD (very near her in the 1841 and 1851 censuses, about 5 years younger) is probably Sarah's brother. If so, John BEARD (age 87 in 1841 in Barton St Mary) is either her father or grandfather.

Julia Pursehouse, I am interested in the ancestors of Martha
SUMMER(H)ILL, born in Gloucester about 1833. Her father was Isaac SUMMER(H)ILL. I think his family came from the Mangotsfield area. I am also interested in the ancestors of James TAYLOR, born about 1830 in Bristol. He and Martha married in Cheltenham in 1855. His father was Richard TAYLOR, born about 1788 in Goodrich, Gloucs.

Dian Elvin, My ggg Grandmother, Phoebe
SHARGOOL was with her daughter, Louisa Barree SHARGOOL in Gloucester City in the 1851 census (from a very helpful lister), lodging with Charles THOMAS a book and music seller. Phoebe's stepson Henry SHARGOOL was a music seller in Birmingham and the SHARGOOLs were almost all musical. I have no further news of Phoebe (whose husband John SHARGOOL had died in 1838). She might have married again - in Gloucester, to Charles THOMAS, perhaps? She was 68 in 1851, but you never know. Any ideas? Her daughter moved to Stafford and died there in 1855.

Brian Hancock, I have been trying to find the birthplace of my ancestor Isaac
HANCOCK c1797. The IGI gives St Michael, Gloster as his baptism place but that wasn't right, neither was any other parish that I can find. I do know that he married Mary SMITH at Hempsted in 1822. I have also found an Isaac who was sentenced to Gloster jail in 1840 for stealing a horse in Hemsted. So it looks like he knew the area. But I cannot find anything else about him. Can you please help?

Gary Hargreaves, researching the
PRIDAY family of Quedgeley. I am particularly interested in the Ascendants and Descendants of One Charles PRIDAY born in Quedgeley in around 1839. I believe his parents were Charles and Penelope PRIDAY (nee HONEYBOURNE) who were supposedly Farm Bailiff and Nursemaid at the manor at some time. Any help would be greatly appreciated. By the way I understand that Penelope's dates were 1798 to 1901! but that could be incorrect.

Andrea K. Haga, I am researching Thomas
BRAMPTON ironsmith / blacksmith who was apprenticed to Henry DRAPER in 1720. I am interested in discovering his spouse and any or all of his children. We believe his one of his sons, Bryant / Bryan BRAMPTON emigrated to Virginia as an indentured servant. Bryant / Bryan was listed as a freeman, son of Thomas, blacksmith, dec'd,Êof Gloucester in 1761. Other researchers have indicated that the family might have come from Cirencester. If you are researching this line or would like to share information, please contact me at
